22nd National Public Transportation Meeting

For France's 22nd National Public Transportation Meeting, to be held from November 25-27, 2009, 4,000 experts will come together in Nice to exchange ideas on the latest developments in the sector.

During these three days, representatives from all areas of public transportation will meet to discuss the latest issues affecting the sector and society in general. The meeting includes:

the GART Congress (round table and topic-based workshops);
the UTP Symposium (round table and topic-based workshops);
an exhibition presenting the best projects of the 140 exhibitors from all activities in public transit and road and rail transportation.

All activities will be presented there, as well as the most recent innovations in urban, intercity, regional and national travel.

For the seventh edition of European Mobility Week events will take place throughout France from September 16 to 22. The Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development has issued a call for projects from all French players in the mobility sector to increase public awareness of the issues and encourage changes in travel habits.

Veolia Transport's commitment on the international climate change negotiations

A series of three workshops will be held in 2009 (on March 27 in Paris, June 6 in Bonn and in September in Brussels). Their purpose is to help ensure that transportation is really included in climate change negotiations, specifically during the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conference in December 2009 in Copenhagen.

3rd Public Transportation Day

France's 3rd Public Transportation Day will be held on Wednesday September 16, 2009, at the start of European Mobility Week. Public Transportation Day has the support of the French Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development.

This action aims to promote the advantages of public transportation and to encourage lasting changes in behavior in favor of sustainable mobility: traveling by bus, light rail, metro, coach and regional train; and using a bike or walking between the different transit modes, or even a car, by making use of car-sharing and park-and-ride facilities.

Cities and climate change are at the top of the agenda. At a time when climate change is a major priority for the international community, this symposium aims at pushing forward the research agenda on climate change from a city's perspective.

Specifically, the main questions will focus on the impacts of city and urban growth on climate change; measuring and anticipating the consequences of climate change on the quality of urban life, city assets, and local and national economies; and assessing alternatives to increase the resilience of cities.
