Growth in tailored or on-demand services

Through services such as Proxiway car-sharing, Veloway self-service bicycles and transportation on demand, Veolia Transport is increasing the number of alternative and interactive solutions to provide all users with the greatest freedom of movement.

Doncaster, United Kingdom, contracted Veolia Transport in 2009 to implement a transportation-on-demand system for the transfer of patients between their home and the hospital. Stanford University, United States, has done something similar at its campus.

The introduction of a car-sharing system in a city can cut travel by private car by up to 30%. In Paris, Mobizen provides consumers and businesses with a fleet of self-service cars and light utility vehicles available 24/7.

With a network of more than 100 stations, or "pods", Mobizen is now the leading system in the Paris region. Its clean vehicles emit less than 120g of CO2 per km.

Intelligent personal travel is a growing trend and more and more projects are appearing. In La Rochelle, France, Veolia Transport's Proxiway subsidiary provides 53 electric vehicles available for self-service hire 24/7 from seven pods.

Veloway, Veolia Transport's self-service bicycle hire subsidiary, offers three systems: Veloway Pass, where the bicycles are docked at pods using their baskets; Veloway Mobile, with parking pods that can be installed and moved without the need for any roadworks; and Veloway Park, a fully automated and secured bicycle parking service.

Veloway has already been introduced in the United Kingdom (London, Southampton and Gloucester) and the United States (Washington, Chicago and Seattle). In 2009, it was launched in Vannes and Nice in France. It has more than 5,000 subscribers who have clocked up 215,000 rentals.
