Veolia Transport awarded Mont Saint Michel public service management contract
Back
Paris, October 07, 2009.The joint authority with responsibility for the Bay of Mont Saint Michel has selected Veolia Transport to operate public services to welcome and transport visitors to the site. The contract is for 13 years, three of which will be spent on construction of the off-site parking lots and the operations center. It will generate cumulative revenue of approximately €91 million.
Veolia Transport has won this call for tenders, the specifications for which were based on proactiveness and quality, as part of a major operation to make the Mont Saint Michel an island again. The demand is for a service of quality that will match the reputation of the world-renowned site and will be diversified so as to meet the needs of fluctuating passenger numbers. All structures to be built have to respect the architecture and form a coherent whole with existing structures. This applies to customer service sites, shuttles and the future bridge-causeway. All transit vehicles must have a consistent design and respect the site, in compliance with innovative graphic standards designed specially for the Mont Saint Michel.
The know-how and expertise of Veolia Transport is based on a comprehensive array of competencies, whether for quality of service, environmental protection, parking and the transportation of all types of passengers. Throughout the duration of the contract, Veolia Transport has committed to ensuring a very high level of quality of service to the joint authority and to visitors, especially in terms of on-time performance, service frequency, and the availability and cleanliness of all equipment.
Access to the Mont Saint Michel will be provided by:
- Bi-directional shuttle buses that will be specifically designed for the Mont Saint Michel, with panoramic windows.
- Horse-drawn tire-mounted shuttles. The use of horses offers a transit mode that is suited to the atmosphere of the Mont Saint Michel and respects the environment.
“
The Mont Saint Michel is an exceptional showcase for Veolia Transport. The requirements of the specifications and the understanding of what is at stake for the area offer a very interesting challenge for our expertise. We are delighted to be participating in this project, which represents a real program for sustainable development,
”
said Cyrille du Peloux, CEO of Veolia Transport.
