In Nice, Veloway has a 15-year contract to operate a fleet of 1,750 bicycles, which will be available from 175 distribution stations. The service will start in July 2009.
In Vannes, 180 bicycles will be available at around 20 stations. The service will start up at the end of June 2009 under an eight-year contract for Veloway.
The aim of the two services is to offer customers an alternative to the car for getting about town. The bicycle stations will be automated and will cover the whole of the two communities involved. The system will be accessible to everyone, with payment possible by both payment card and mobile phone.
"As a major player in all forms of sustainable mobility, Veolia Transport intends to support Veloway in its future projects. We have to make the most of our expertise in France to reinforce, diversify and encourage public transportation and intermodality, as well as to help urban communities by working toward respect for the environment. This service is an excellent demonstration of Veolia Transport's principle concerns," said Cyrille du Peloux, Chief Executive Officer Veolia Transport.
