Regional Ferry Service
Bringing people together by a reliable fat ferry connection

Challenge

Having regained operational stability and reliability during the first half of the contract, the main challenge is to maintain the high level of service access while remodelling port terminals, implementing a new national smart-card ticketing system, and the ISM code for high level of safety and environmental quality.

Objectives

  • Increase the number of passengers by cooperating with the Veolia Transport bus network in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
  • Continuously improve quality of service.
  • Synchronize timetable scheduling with the integrated regional transit system including buses, trains and the ferry service.

Ridership increased by 6% in 2009

Veolia Transport's solution

  • Provided technical and nautical support to help the public transportation authority, owner of the vessels, to choose the safest and most practical evacuation system to be installed onboard.
  • Initiated the reengineering of the main engines and the electric propulsion engines to ensure the continuity and reliability of the operation in the future.
  • Promoted the operation to the inhabitants in the region by introducing interesting package offers, discounted combination tickets for boat, bus and points of interest or tourist attractions in the area.
  • Improved customer information by introducing an SMS service for real-time information about potential delays and cancellations.
  • Strengthened the customer care culture by introducing an electronic reservation system for customers to decrease waiting times during periods of high frequentation.
