Local authorities are increasingly outsourcing rail service to private enterprises. Besides the many technical and administrative tasks involved, this "fixed" mode of transportation requires tailoring management to local requirements and coordinating the different professional fields that make up rail organizations.

The reward is an under control budget, lower costs, enhanced service, a system revitalized by a host of innovations and a sharp jump in ridership. In many cases old lines were reopened; in others, the number of trains on the tracks was increased.

Several services are offered aboard trains to optimize travel time. Internet access, sections reserved for families and food and drink vending machines are some examples. Facilitating rider transfers to other transportation modes makes travel smoother: our on-board train staff can reserves taxis so that passengers can continue their trip as soon as they arrive at the station and schedules can be planned to mesh with the bus system affiliated with the city or town of destination.

A special effort has been made to partner the management services of regional lines with the various community stakeholders they serve. Veolia Transport is especially active in creating ties and partnerships with local government agencies, associations and various commercial enterprises.
