Environmental Management System
To provide sustainable mobility solutions we must find ways of ensuring that our passengers travel in greater comfort and more rapidly, that we reduce the depletion of energy resources and that we fight air pollution by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As part of Veolia Environnement, Veolia Transport is particularly aware of the importance of environmental protection, which, with economic and social development, form our sustainable development program.
When they reduce fuel consumption per person carried, mass transit systems naturally help to combat polluting emissions.

Veolia Transport commitments
Helping cities achieve high-quality air
As part of the action plan initiated in connection with Veolia Environnement's Environmental Management System (EMS) Veolia Transport has made some major commitments to protect air quality further still. Between 2001 and 2005, it cut its carbon monoxide emissions by 20%, its unburnt hydrocarbon emissions by 16% and its solid particulate emissions by 22%.
To achieve these results, Veolia Transport draws upon its ability to innovate. Our research and development center helps to build a sustainable mobility model, ranging from the creation of new services such as transport-on-demand or mobility call centers to the management of clean vehicles and fuels.
Innovation and proximity
Technical expertise and strong support from the field
Often with the support of recognized partners, such as the French Environmental Agency (Ademe), a large range of solutions are offered to Veolia Transport's transit systems. The technologies implemented to curb the impact of vehicle fleets include the treatment of exhaust gases using catalytic converters, particulate filters, biofuel, gas fuels and electrical power.
To be fully efficient, this technical expertise is always backed by strong support from the field. In close cooperation with public authorities, we make recommendations and advise on the selection of vehicle fleets, fuels and pollution control technologies that are best suited to the economics of a transit system. Through innovation and operational experience, Veolia Transport has positioned itself to meet the goal of its Chief Executive Officer Stéphane Richard that it should be "the world leader in sustainable mobility solutions for local authorities".
